OutZone members teach the teachers

On 21st November 2008, OutZone members will be helping to deliver a workshop to formal educators and related professionals at a conference London to mark the launch of the DVD ‘Visible and Valued. The new resource which also features members of our project is described as “innovative training resource to help further education and skills providers develop practical approaches to delivering sexual orientation equality”.

Quotes from the CEL (Centre for Excellence in Leadership) website:

"Visible and valued is a DVD resource that gives a platform to the voices and experiences of lesbian, gay and bisexual learners and staff. It includes extensive notes and other training resources, to help users ensure compliance with the law and work towards creating a truly inclusive, excellent and equality friendly organisation....”

"This resource is the first of its kind in the FE and skills sector...”

  • Clips from the DVD featuring OutZone members can be found on our website here
  • An excerpt from the DVD can also be found here

The launch event and conference is taking place on Friday 21st November at the UCU Conference Centre, 27 Britannia Street, London, WC1X 9JP.

Young Londoners Fund - Assessment Visit

That’s right - our application to the Young Londoners Fund (The Mayors Fund - London Youth Offer) has passed the first hurdle and we’re through to round 2! This means we’ll be getting a visit this week (Friday 19th September) from a team of assessors (two young people and one adult) to check out our credentials and to make sure we’re gonna do what we said we would. This doesn’t mean ‘the money is in the bag’. They will still have to go away and present their findings to ‘the board’ who will make the final decision. Hopefully we’ll know if we’ve been successful sometime on October. Fingers crossed.

Come down to OutZone this Friday and help us demonstrate the need for our valuable work to continue.
